The Government of the Federal Republic of Germany has renewed its support of the Development Gateway Foundation with a pledge of $5 million over the next three years. This is Germany's second round of financing for the Development Gateway, whose mission is to put the Internet to work to improve the lives of people in developing countries.

The Development Gateway's services include online public procurement information platforms, aid information management tools, e-government grant management, global online knowledge-sharing communities and support of an extensive network of local enterprises providing web-related services for local development needs.

"The Development Gateway has grown into an excellent partner for the Government of Germany and others who are working to improve economic and social conditions in developing countries," said Dr. Michael Hofmann, Director General for Global and Sectoral Tasks, European and Multilateral Development Policy, Africa and the Middle East, at Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, and also Chairman of the Development Gateway's Board of Directors. "The foundation is helping increase transparency in international aid processes, while stimulating collaboration and coordination to increase the overall impact of our efforts," he added.

Alan J. Rossi, Chief Executive Officer of the Development Gateway Foundation, commented that: "As an agile, independent actor, we work with governments, international donors and private organizations to build alliances and implement practical web-based solutions to support shared development goals. This is engaging hundreds of partners in both developed and developing countries - and Germany is a leader in this effort."

The Development Gateway, launched by the World Bank, is today supported by a diverse group of donors including international organizations, governments, corporations and others.
