The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) had received, by Thursday evening, around 32,500 individual income tax returns filed electronically for the e-filing season 2013 ending April 1, sources informed The Independent.

Around 137,000 returns are expected for this season, in parallel with the 137,000 e-mailers containing a user ID and password to register for MRA e-services the Authority dispatched to taxpayers this year.

“The current number of returns received is perceived as reasonable, given that the largest number of returns are usually filed during the last five days prior to the deadline,” the MRA source said.

MRA officers will be present in 16 centres around the island on March 30 and 31 to advise and assist taxpayers in filing their returns from 9 am till 4 30 pm.

Eighty two per cent returns were filed electronically last year.

The MRA is aiming for the 100 per cent mark in 2013.
