With the objective of maintaining transparency in government biddings, the Public Procurement Monitoring Office (PPMO) has launched a portal where all bidding-related information will be available to prospective bidders.

Prime Minister Sushil Koirala inaugurated the portal while marking PPMO´s eighth anniversary at the Prime Minister´s Official Residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, PM Koirala expressed his commitment to curbing corruption. He also said that government officials should work from their side to end corruption. This is part of the government´s plan to introduce e-governance in public entities.

On the occasion, Acting Chief of the PPMO Tanka Mani Sharma submitted PPMO´s annual report to the prime minister.

According to PPMO, bidding-related information of the government offices such as evaluation, electronic payment, contract management and public procurement information management would be made available on the website. Government offices and departments have been posting bidding-related information on their own websites so far.

The new portal has been designed to facilitate the process of submitting bids, making electronic payment and providing other information regarding evaluation, contract management.

As a pilot project, the Ministry of Irrigation and the Department of Local Infrastructure Development and Agricultural Roads (DoLIDAR) will start the process of making bidding-related information available on PPMO´s official website (ppmo.gov.np) very soon.

"Government offices should provide their bidding related information through PPMO´s single portal. We are hopeful that it can be done by the end of October this year," Spokesperson for PPMO Naresh Chapagain told Republica. PPMO will provide password and username to government offices so that they can post their bidding related information on the website.

The website has been launched amid criticisms from various quarters regarding irregularities in government biddings. Unscrupulous bidders have been taking advantage of the loopholes seen in the bidding of various government offices.

The new PPMO project is aimed at maintaining transparency, fairness, equality of access, and open competition. This site will provide easy to use internet access for tender information, information on award of contracts and an alternate facility to submit bids to all interested bidders as specified in the Instructions to Bidders.

The portal allows a bidder to purchase the bid document directly from the employer´s office or download the bid document from the website and deposit the equivalent amount in the revenue account of the employer as specified in the notice or bid document.
