Recognising the 'bridging the digital divide' is one of the most important dimensions to reduce poverty and to facilitate nationwide economic growth for developing countries, the Korean government has taken initiative to establish the ICT centre to share the benefits of information technology and develop digital opportunities.
Through the project, Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will construct five-storey building, provide necessary equipments, training to 13 staffs of Institute of Engineering (IoE) and dispatch 12 Korean experts for the sustainable operation of the centre.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Korea and Ministry of Finance of Nepal signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the establishment of Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre.
The MPU was signed by Finance Secretary Rameshore Prasad Khanal and Korean Ambassador to Nepal Hong Sang-mog.
KOICA has been extending special contribution to the development of IT sector of Nepal. KOICA has pledged to continuously provide support to attain Nepal's government's goal of e-governance.
KOICA is all set to begin works soon with a goal to accomplish construction works of the centre by 2012.
Earlier, the Integrated Data Centre (IDC) was already established in Singha Durbar with the assistance of KOICA.
