Technical Director of Telecommunication Consultants India Limited (ITCL) P. Ganesh presented a paper on "e-Governance Models and Practices' in which he said that e-Governance model would simplify government functioning, eliminate wasteful government spending, improve response time to citizens from weeks to minutes and reduce paperwork burden for citizens and businesses.
He said that e-Governance models would connect government-to-government, government to business and government to people. Ganesh said that it was feasible to expand of e-Governance down to regional, state and district level. He, however, noted e-Governance would not expand easily in remote areas due to lack of awareness, he added.
He said that e-Governance would be very effective to deliver services relating to transport, health care, education, employment and municipal ones.
He added that e-Governance would increase productivity, improve efficiency and public service.
The government should finalise IT policy, draw up IT master plan and appoint implementing agencies for building e-Governance infrastructure, he pointed out.
