Noting that E-government is increasingly proving to be an effective means to improve efficiency and transparency in the public sector, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) launched E-government training in Kathmandu Thursday.

"The six-day course on Public Information Services for the poor is aimed at helping Nepal enhance the role of E-government," stated a press release issued by the ADB.

ADB further said that E-government can also enhance the quality of life as it can make public services highly inclusive, adding, "Sharing of knowledge and experience will help Nepal to develop cost effective E-government. It is especially important as the country plans to establish rural tele-centers in 1,500 village development committees by 2007."

More than 30 representatives from various government agencies, non-government organisations, tele-centers, and e-community centers are participating in the six-day training which is organized by the ADB Institute and Colombo Plan Staff College in partnership with the National Information Technology Center of Nepal.
