Rwanda on Monday launched an online pharmaceutical regulatory services portal aimed at increasing efficiency and transparency of pharmaceutical services.
The online portal named Pharmaceutical Regulatory Information Management System (PRIMS) will digitize all processes related to pharmaceutical services and monitor the registration and inspection process to ensure access to essential medicines in Rwanda, according Rwanda’s ministry of health.
The portal will ease the administration and management of regulatory services and documents issued by the Rwandan health sector to stakeholders in the country involved in manufacturing, imports and exports of pharmaceutical products, said Rwandan minister of health Diane Gashumba at the launch event in Rwandan capital Kigali.
“We are targeting to efficiently improve pharmaceutical operational processes … Pharmaceutical businesses in Rwanda will also benefit from reduced time in getting regulatory clearance,” she said.
The portal will play a key role towards achieving a digital Rwandan economy, said Kalema Gordon, principal senior technologist in charge of e-government services coordination at the ministry of ICT.
“The pharmaceutical portal will promote efficiency, reduce the cost of doing business and the unnecessary protocol involved in the pharmaceutical business in the country,” he said.
According to the ministry of ICT, Rwanda targets to deliver all government services online by 2024, in order to improve government services, transactions and interactions with citizens and businesses.
The e-government platform will build on the already ICT infrastructures laid across the country for instance the National Data Centre and Fibre Optic Cable among others.
