The launching of the sophisticated information access centre at the Kenyan based campus of Multimedia University college, includes some promising news for Rwandan students, RNA has reliably learnt.

An official press release issued Tuesday in Kigali says a new facility which was established at the campus premises of Multimedia Universty in Nairobi will radically improve the quality of service and infrastructure for students, by enabling citizens anywhere to access information and knowledge. It has also opened new channels for service delivery in areas such as e-government, e-education and e-health.

In Rwanda, recently there has been a trend as many students to go abroad to study because of various reasons such as for higher standards of education, better campus facilities, to enlighten their resume.

"Korea has enhanced our role as a leader in ICT within the East African region and we are now strategically positioned to take a lead in Africa," said Mutahi Kagwe, Chairman of the Council at Multimedia University commenting on the new move.

It is said that Multmedia University has embarked on a comprehensive plan to create a global footprint through collaborations and joint ventures with reputable international partners and institutions.

Since its establishement in 2008, the Kenyan based academic institution has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the famous Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) based in Thailand, the Zurich University of Applied Sciences and the Multimedia University of Malaysia, amongst others.

The new technology facility will enable the university targetting students from the whole east African region, including Rwanda MMU to use the new centre for further education such as short term courses and trainings needed by employers and staff who want to stay relevant in their areas of expertise.

Statistics from the Ministry of education shows that RWanda counts for around one hundred students studying abroad mainly in the US under the Presidential Scholarship Program whcih was initiated by President Paul Kagame since 2006.

However there are also another batch of Rwandan students studying abroad on government scholarships, or privately, in several institutions across the world including countries such as Algeria, Belgium, Canada, China, Djibouti, Finland, Germany, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Poland, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, UK and USA.
