Registrar General's office launch specific E-Government services on Eleuthera.

Thursday, May 9th, 2013 saw the partial launch of E-government services in Eleuthera, with the introduction of the resources to acquire birth, death and marriage certificates directly from Administrative offices in Harbour Island, North Eleuthera (Upper Bogue), Governor’s Harbour and Rock Sound.

On hand to officially launch the introduction of those Registrar General’s services across the Eleutheras, were Minister of Legal Affairs and Attorney General, Allison Maynard-Gibson; Member of Parliament for Central and South Eleuthera and Minister of State for Legal Affairs, Damian Gomez; and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Legal Affairs, Archie Nairn.

According to Minister Gomez, the availability of these services in Eleuthera was important, not only to make doing business in Eleuthera easier, but to also curtail the expensive necessity of Eleutherans having to travel into New Providence to receive these basic documents.

Central Eleuthera Administrator Charles King, in Governor’s Harbour commented on the new service, saying, “We welcome the government’s initiative to bring this type of governance to the island of Eleuthera, because of the inconveniences that people have had to suffer going in to Nassau. It will also help to boost our ability to keep good records, and it is very convenient for people to come here and in a matter of ten minutes be able to be served. Our people will benefit greatly from this initiative.”

Minister Allison Maynard-Gibson described the launch as just the beginning, with sights set on providing all documentation available at the Registrar General’s office in New Providence available to Eleutherans here at home, before the end of the current term in planned stages, which would include the proper training of staff.

The Spanish Wells Administrative office, confirmed the Minister, would launch the new services as well in the coming weeks.

Minister Maynard-Gibson also acknowledged the need for E-Passport services in Eleuthera, commenting that the Minister responsible for Passport services was aware and currently investigating how those services could be best employed on the island, and that the mobile Passport Unit would be implemented in the interim.
