By the end of this month, citizens will be able to use their ID card and driver's license in electronic form.
The Ministry of Digital Transformation expects final comments from Poland, where the application has been sent for testing, within 3 weeks.
However, whether a digital ID card or driver's license will be accepted for identification will remain at the discretion of the institutions.
Minister of Digital Transformation Stefan Andonovski calls on institutions to treat applications like documents.
"The initial goal is to publish the application, so that citizens have it, and then begin the process of changing regulations and laws if the need arises. As a lawyer, I think that the notification letter as a personal document should be treated equally whether as a physical or electronic document. Let's see if institutions are willing to accept it with the existing regulations, and if they are not, let's see if we can change them," Andonovski declared.
Digital documents will not replace the physical documents that all citizens carry with them.
"We will not make it mandatory and we will not exclude documents made of paper or plastic such as ID cards or driver's licenses. Citizens who want to use traditional documents will be able to use them physically. We want to work with those citizens or companies who need to perform services faster, more easily and more efficiently and who are only just getting used to using electronic means," said Andonovski.
In June of last year, the Parliament approved laws that enable the digitalization of services for issuing personal documents and certificates by state bodies.
