ttconnect Mobile was launched recently by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, the Honourable Kamla Persad Bissessar, at the recently concluded Trinidad and Tobago ICT Business and Innovation Symposium as one of the newer channels of delivery which offers persons the option to connect to and search a mobile version of ttconnect Online via any mobile phone capable of connecting to the Internet. By entering “ttconnect.gov.tt” into a mobile phone browser, anyone from any part of the world can easily view and download accurate information on all government information and services available in this format. ttconnect Mobile is adapted to both high-end and low-end Internet-ready phones so that the ttconnect web pages load faster and the website is rendered accordingly for the user.

ttconnect Mobile comes at a time when the country’s mobile penetration rate is in excess of 120%. This is a result of a more liberalized telecommunications sector which has ushered in intense competition thereby making mobile phones more affordable to obtain and maintain. Government information is now right at the fingertips of mobile phone users in that the Government-to-Citizen interface can for the first time be activated anytime and anywhere.

Using ttconnect Mobile, the Government has found a new way to market Trinidad and Tobago around the world right into the hands of every mobile user. With a gentle tap of the finger, anyone can load accurate information on the country of Trinidad and Tobago including its people, history and culture right to their phone. Users benefit from a virtual “How to Guide” for requesting further information such as paying for services and can immediately visually locate the relevant government offices by using the MAPIT feature of the channel. Users can also attain information needed to access government services including employment and training opportunities, housing applications, birth certificate applications, grants and scholarships. A “Quick Links” button is always visible, allowing for easy navigation when switching between pages. The user also has the ability to upload feedback, mirroring the capabilities that one would have if connecting to the ttconnect site using a personal computer or laptop.

ttconnect Mobile received the Caribbean Association of National Telecommunications Organizations’ 2010 Project of the Year award alongside ttconnect Express. This channel is an invaluable first step to interfacing with that segment of the public who is always on-the-go. Such is the outcome of a nation that prides itself on being the Caribbean region’s best example for the innovative application of Information and Communication Technologies.
