Transforming Government since 2001
The ministry said the e-card was one feature of the system being introduced but an exact costing could not be provided.

A pilot programme for the e-card will take place at the Siparia Health Centre, St Joseph Morvant Centre, Caanan, St James DHF and other facilities.

The ministry says the National Health Services Plan, of which the e-card will be part, will be ready within three years.

The e-health card will be used for patient registration, recording of patient visits, recording vital statistics, retrieval of past visits.

The card will allow persons to be entitled to “a number” of health services and patients will name their general practitioner do a full physical exam annually as a preventive measure.

General practitioners and the private health sector will be able to access the e-card. The GPs will have to be registered to participate.

Private doctors will have to invest in getting the terminal to swipe the e-card. The Health ministry is negotiating a contract for the terminals and it using igovtt to facilitate this.
