Health Minister Jerry Narace spoke about the e-card at the forum “Innovative Solutions to Healthcare” aboard the Serenade of the Seas where the Commonwealth Business Forum continued yesterday. Improvements in health quality, patient safety, reduction in health costs and informed decision making are the expected benefits.
Narace said the change will be radical as the health system was moving from an “outdated” manual system of registering patients and keeping records to a fully automated model.
The National Health Network (NHN) will be the infrastructure to support the transition. Narace said all hospitals, health care diagnostic centres, pharmacies and general practitioners will be integrated to a central framework. “Through the e-health card patients will be identified and the health care encounter will be validated in real time”.
