The government will soon offer Information Technology solutions to State-owned enterprises and even private sector banks.

Ministry of Finance permanent secretary Filimone Waqabaca said after completing phase one of the e-government project that resulted in the opening of the Information Technology Data Centre in April, work on phase two has been set in motion.

"We are going to work towards ensuring the use of that facility to offer back-up services to other institutions or organisations in Fiji, be they State-owned enterprises or banks," Mr Waqabaca said.

He said the ITC Data Centre wanted its back-up system to be placed at the secondary site and not the primary site.

"In the event of technology glitch, these institutions will always have their back-up at the secondary site," he said.

The government is moving away from the manual mode of operations. This has brought in a lot of benefits in the case of the Financial Management Information System.

The system allows the government to keep tabs on the use of funds by individual ministries and departments.

"The FMIS allows us to manage ministries' operations within the budget," Mr Waqabaca said.

"The system will not allow anyone to go overboard to bust."
