The government’s ongoing efforts to enhancing public sector efficiency and effective service delivery took another step forward yesterday with the launch of its E-Governance Computer Project.

Interim Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama yesterday launched the system that will facilitate the electronic registration of companies and place company information online.

Bainimarama said the e-governance project was a milestone achievement for the responsible ministry – the Ministry of Justice, and the government.

In a move to curb problems of long queues and backlogs, the ministry has recognised the efficiency of new information technology.

The system will help in keeping track of businesses and companies.

Bainimarama said bringing public services closer to the people was part of his administration’s objectives.

“Such initiatives by the ministry and the government not only creates better lives for the ordinary men and women but also provides better business environment, improving efficiency, productivity and reduces the cost of doing business,” he said.

The PM added that he looked forward to more efficiency and better delivery of services by the government and civil service.

Bainimarama reminded those at the launch that this was the second such initiative of the Ministry of Justice, the first being accessing and production of birth certificates from designated post offices.

Interim Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said this was part of the government’s drive to deliver better services to the people and to create a conducive environment for businesses.
