Transforming Government since 2001
A program to implement government communications infrastructure and to give high-priority to government service online has been launched.

Interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry says the E-Government Program will create a ‘New Fiji’ with improved levels of communication within and outside of Fiji.

Chaudhry termed E-Government as the application of ICT or information communications technology by government agencies to enhance and improve public sector delivery.

A memorandum of understanding was signed in May 2004 between the Fiji Government and China’s Ministry of information Industry for a loan to finance Fiji’s first E-Government Programme.

A survey was conducted to assess Fiji’s current state of E-Government readiness which revealed that almost 50% of ministries have no ICT budget plans in place.

More than 50% of government services require customers to make at least two trips and 60% of the services need more than two levels of approvals.
