The development of the Mtumba Government City in Dodoma has reached 90.1 per cent completion, earning international recognition.
As of on Wednesday, delegations from ten countries have visited the site to learn from Tanzania’s innovative approach to smart urban planning and public service delivery.
Speaking in Dodoma, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports and Chief Government Spokesperson, Mr Gerson Msigwa, said the project is being developed as a Smart City, integrating modern infrastructure and digital systems to improve government efficiency.
“Our ministry’s five-storey office building is 99.99 per cent complete, and staff have already begun operations from the new facility,” said Mr Msigwa.
“We are proud that, after four years, the building constructed by our own institutions, the National Housing Corporation (NHC) and Tanzania Building Agency (TBA), is now almost fully complete and of high quality.” Coordinator of the Government Relocation to Dodoma and Mtumba Government City, Mr Noel Mlindwa said the project is currently in phase three, which focuses on the development of essential infrastructure such as water, electricity, communications and road networks.
He said that the 750bn/- project adheres to Smart City standards, with all 34 government buildings designed to use renewable energy and equipped with rainwater harvesting systems.
“The city will also be connected to the electric railway network. In the near future, Mtumba will be a fully operational Smart City,” Mlindwa noted.
In a related development, Mr Msigwa announced that President Samia Suluhu Hassan is scheduled to visit the Simiyu and Mwanza regions from this Sunday to June 21st this year, where she will inspect and inaugurate several strategic development projects.
In Simiyu, President Samia will tour all four districts from Sunday to June 18th before proceeding to Mwanza, where she will stay until June 21st. While in Mwanza, she is expected to officially inaugurate the Kigongo-Busisi Bridge, a 3-kilometre span and the longest bridge in Eastern and Central Africa.
She will also attend the Bulabo Traditional Festival in Mwanza City.
“I urge residents of Simiyu and Mwanza to turn out in large numbers to welcome the President as she launches these landmark projects,” said Mr Msigwa.
Following her regional tour, President Samia will travel to Mozambique to participate in the country’s 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations on June 25th, this year, as an official guest.
The visit is part of ongoing efforts to deepen diplomatic and economic ties between Tanzania and Mozambique, Mr Msigwa said. President Samia is also scheduled to visit the Union of the Comoros on July 6th, this year, at the invitation of President Azali Assoumani, to attend the country’s 50th Independence celebrations.
