INFORMATION and Communication Technologies Commission (ICTC) has said the country is set to benefit from Estonia’s e-infrastructure knowledge.
The ICTC Director General, Dr Nkundwe Mwasaga, who is leading a delegation of 11 people visiting Estonia, said Tallinn – the capital and most populous city of Estonia,has developed ICT infrastructure and knowledge from which Tanzania can borrow a leaf.
“This is a small (45.100 square kilometres), but very rich country. It has made huge strides in ICT with appropriate infrastructure in place. Tanzania can equally benefit from this knowledge and infrastructure. We shall make the most of this study tour,” said Dr Mwasaga.
The five days tour that started on Monday came since a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tanzania and Estonia allows the ICTC to collaborate with Estonia’s e-Governance Academy and the Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications (ITL).
The ICTC and the Estonian agencies are implementing the African Union – European Union (AU-EU) Digital for Development Hub Project.
Estonia’s e-Governance Agency is a joint initiative of the Estonian government, the Open Society Institute and the United Nations Development Programme UNDP.
According to a press statement issued here by the hosts, the e-Governance Agency assists the public sector and civil society and civil society organisation in making digital transformation happen.
“We play key roles in e-government and digital transformation policy planning and implementation including the formation of the lead organisations responsible for developing a Estonia’s interoperability framework and related legal and technical framework development and management,” the statement said.
Others in the delegation are Dr Goodwill Wanga (Tanzania National Business Council), Mr Jasson Ndaguzi (ICTC), Mr Haji Lunga (ICTC), Dr Dawson Msongaleli (Tanzania Police), Mr Sostenes Malimi and (National Internet Data Centre)’s Ms Lugano Rwetaka.
Others are Mr Peter Mwasalyanda and Mr Nicolaus Mhonyiwa ((Ministry of Information, Communication and Information Technology), Prof George Oreku (Open University of Tanzania) and Mr Donald Juma (e-Government Authority). The study tour ends on April 21, 2023.
