The government has reiterated its determination to empower youths with technological and entrepreneurship skills to make them cope with prevailing economic and social challenges.

"We are in the process of changing our education system to ensure those coming out of schools and colleges have adequate skill to make them self-reliant," the Director of ICT in the Ministry of Communication, Science and Technology, Dr Ziapora Yonah, said in Dar es Salaam over the weekend.

Dr Yonah said this when officiating at a function to award 25 youths after compeletion of internship training offered by the Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) Tanzania. DOT Tanzania is affiliated to DOT International, a leading social enterprise based in Canada, which focuses on creating educational, economic and entrepreneurial opportunities through effective use of ICT for communities and people in developing countries.

The enterprise recruits graduates from local universities who after training work as mentors of people to seize various opportunities in business and micro-finance.

"DOT and its partners share a vision of a connected world in the 21st century, in which the human network and the power of teaching people how to use technology effectively are combined to produce sustainable entrepreneurship and educational development," said DOT Country Progamme Manager, Mr Phillip Mogendi.

Dr Yonah said he was highly impressed with DOT's activities and regarded its graduates as vital "soldiers" in the country's CIT development agenda and poverty eradication strategy. "You are the agents of change as the nation marches towards digital revolution and people's empowerment," Dr Yonah stressed.
