Dar es Salaam. The government has reiterated its determination to deal with abusers of Information Communication Technology (ICT) platforms, vowing to take stern measures against them, including dragging them to court.

Such acts as circulating hate messages for incitement via mobile phones and other means of communication would not be tolerated.

The minister for Communications, Science and Technology, Prof Makame Mbarawa, said this at the weekend.

Prof Mbarawa said: “Strict measures will be taken against all individuals or entities that will abuse the government and its leaders as well as other people in society.”

He warned that there would be zero tolerance against people who show in public pornographic content, those who give personal information to third parties without the consent of the owners, and those who threaten the country’s peace and tranquillity, among others.

“It is just few people who use mobile phones, emails and other social media channels for bad intentions,” he said.

He noted that despite the fact that technology has helped bring about development in recent years in the country; there are few people who use ICT negatively and that the government will not simply watch watching as things go awry. He said there were reports of people using ICT to accomplish evil things such as banditry, rape, drugs, prostitution and others.

“We will not tolerate this…we will work with other government agencies to stop this for the good of our country,” he said.Prof Mbarawa also warned use of SIM cards without registration saying service providers should not entertain such use.

He warned that it was a crime not to disclose genuine particulars during registration for a SIM card.
