The government will pass a digital security law to stop misuse of internet, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said.

She said this while inaugurating the observance of Internet Week in a video conference on Saturday evening.

The PM urged not to use the internet in unsocial activities and militancy. She also urged not to make any derogative comment on religion in the internet.

She said the government has the plan to reach internet to every house of 4500 unions all over the country by 2017.

Bangladesh Internet Week, to be observed from September 5 to September 11, jointly organised by Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), GrameenPhone and the ICT Division of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.

Along with three major exposes taking place in Dhaka, Rajshahi and Sylhet, this internet festival will also be held in 487 upazilas throughout Bangladesh.

The country's foremost e-commerce companies, mobile apps development companies, web portals, device manufacturers, as well as all internet products and services companies will be taking part in this event.

According to BASIS, it is hoped that the Internet Week will increase awareness of the life changing capabilities through the internet for employment, education, e-commerce, agriculture, health benefits, e-governance, public services, entertainment and so forth.

In Bangladesh, there are over 40 million internet users in the country, the majority of whom use internet through their mobile.
