Information and communication technology (ICT) can help reach medical services to the door steps of common people in the country, experts said at a meeting Wednesday.

EATL (Ethics Advance Technology Limited), a local ICT services and solutions providing firm, and HASAB, a platform of International HIV/AIDS Alliance, United Kingdom, jointly organised the event, a statement said.

EATL Chief Executive Officer Dr Nizam Uddin Ahmed, Managing Director MA Mubin Khan, ICT Division Additional Secretary Kamal Uddin Ahmed and HASAB Executive Director Dr Amzad Ali, among others, were present the programme.

Key objective of the event is to develop an effective strategy and operational procedure for implementing an ICT based approach to deal with sensitive issues like sexual and reproductive health rights and HIV.

ICT additional secretary Mr Ahmed said considering the importance, the government is working on ensuring connectivity to make sure that services reach the doorsteps of masses.

He said the ministry has been working on various issues like e-health, e-education, e-commerce to solve the problems related to e-governance.

"In addition, we're planning to develop applications on health issue to provide its health related services to the door step," the official said adding that the ministry is working with EATL to develop mobile based applications for all ministries and government agencies to smooth e-governance process.

Mr Khan said EATL will work to reach marginalised community with m-health services through the touch of modern technologies.

"We hope the people from all walks of life will come together to achieve our goal. Especially, we want to engage young minds including street children, sex-workers, working children in the plan," he noted.
