Information Technology (IT) and IT Enabled Service (ITES) companies will employ some 4,000 fast track future IT leaders as a government project will provide support to the companies to train them into IT leaders.

The project “Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance” of Bangladesh Computer Company under ICT ministry will offer a package of incentives to the IT and ITES companies to recruit the fast track future IT leaders and train them, said officials.

They said the initiative is a part of the government’s plan to create 34,000 direct and 120,000 indirect jobs in the IT and ITES companies under this project.

The World Bank is providing US$ 70 million credit for implementing the project within five years.

“In line with the government’s plan to build a Digital Bangladesh, the ICT ministry has launched the project under Bangladesh Computer Company to build IT manpower of 34,000 in the country by providing them with world-class IT training,” said ICT Secretary Nazrul Islam Khan.

He said the government project would help meet the skills demanded by IT companies and contribute to the enhancement of the booming IT sector’s export earnings.

M Rezaul Karim, the project director, said initially the programme will be launched to train 900 candidates and make them skilled in areas demanded by IT and ITES companies by December this year.

He said out of initial 900, 300 will be selected for soft ware development, 300 for business process outsourcing and 300 for IT/ITES related management.

Leading IT experts of IT and ITES companies will conduct the six-month training, he added. The companies will train them according to their needs and after completion of the six-month training the trainees will be employed by the companies, he said.

Candidates who will be selected for jobs in the three categories should have a bachelor’s degree in a science-related field or at least their SSC and HSC backgrounds should be science-related, he said, adding that for jobs in business process outsourcing, HSC certificate in any field is necessary.
