The e-governance and m-governance applications in Kerala have impressed Bangladeshis too.

A high-level team from Bangladesh has come down to the state to have a hands-on experience of the e-governance projects in the state so as to adopt similar models in their country.

Various e-governance applications are being initiated in Bangladesh as part of an UNDP sponsored programme, Access to Information (A2I).

The delegation led by Mr Razee Mohammad Fakhrul, member of A2I programme, interacted with officials of Akshaya on how the centres were being run in a sustainable manner. A similar citizen services delivery project is being launched in Bangladesh too.

The ‘Sutharyakeralam’ project in which the public could take up their grievances with the Chief Minister directly and get immediate solutions through video conferencing, also impressed the delegation, that was in the state from May 2 to 5.

Sources in the IT department said that m-governance applications launched by Kerala State IT Mission (KSITM) had also caught the attention of the delegation.

With mobile phone penetration taking place at fast pace in Bangladesh, the government there is also planning to introduce m-governance applications as part of the A2I programme.

Since four technology parks are being set up at Bangladesh, the delegation also visited Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram and spent several hours there.

Mr Fokhruz Zaman, national e-governance architect, Mr Forhad Zahid Shaikh, system analyst in the Prime Minister’s office and Mr Mohammad Lutfur Rahman, senior assistant secretary of the ministry of establishment, were part of the delegation.
