The Department of Immigration has implored Parliament to push for the resuscitation of its computerised citizen management system which has been down since December 2019.

The system is used to capture the movement of travellers, screen those with outstanding security issues and those with travel bans.

Postal and courier services have kept the world afloat in the most difficult period of the ravaging coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic by delivering essentials, including medicine and necessities hence the need to innovate and embrace the use of technology, a Cabinet minister has said.

Speaking during the World Post Day commemorations yesterday in Gokwe, where he also officially opened a Community Information Centre set up by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz), Information Communication Technology and Cyber Security minister Jenfan Muswere said Covid-19 had taught the world the importance of postal services hence the need to capacitate the sector to make life easier for people in times of crises.

The establishment of an electronic procurement system to enhance transparency, efficiency and credibility of the country’s sloppy procurement processes has been hampered by funding shortfalls from external development partners, three years after the project was mooted, 263Chat Business has learnt.

In 2017, Zimbabwe contracted a British consulting firm, Crown Agency with the funding support of World Bank to develop an electronic procurement strategy which was completed in 2018 as a precursor to the setting up of an electronic system.
