Speaking at the just ended ICT Pitso that was organised by the ministry, Molefi said it is imperative that communities investigate how currently available and existing technology in Botswana can be used to improve the quality and efficiency of service provision in both private and public sectors of the economy.
He said the objective of the ICT Pitso is to come up with creative thoughts on how to shape the industry to everyone's benefit. "As the ministry responsible for coordinating the evolution of the ICT sector, we are intrigued by the testimonials from across the globe of how technology has improved the way people transact in business, interact at a social level and govern each other, " he said.
Further, speaking on the advances in technology Molefi said, "more than that, money transfers are sent through mobile service networks, a wave of change caused by the advent of digital technologies that is sweeping the globe and is upon us in all walks of life, " he explained.
Molefi said government is aware of Batswana's steadily growing dependence on technology for their daily survival in a modern society; adding that the dependency suggests that societies that do not have access to the right technologies will find themselves unable to trade in markets they would normally be able to simply because they aren't technologically complaint.
Moreover, the Minister said that if used in an innovative way, technology can help the public and private sector realize improved efficiency and productivity: "The innovative use of technology would allow people to creatively reduce production overheads of goods and services and also develop and package new products, services and processes for economic growth and social inclusion."
Molefi said government is committed to ensuring that lasting impacts are made in the lives of Batswana through ICT innovations in the areas of culture, social, business, governance, health, education, tourism and manufacturing.
However, he said such a commitment won't be fulfilled without the input and participation of everyone they serve.
