Botswana Export Development and Investment Authority (BEDIA) and Singapore Information Communication Technology (ICT) Federation last week signed a memorandum of agreement which will lead to increased knowledge sharing in the ICT field.
According to the spirit of the agreement, Singapore ICT companies will be able to partner with local companies whenever they find opportunities in other African countries.
According to BEDIA, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Communications, Ms Kungo Lentswe, local companies will be able to penetrate the global market and enhance capacity building locally.
“Singapore is the world leader in the development of ICT, local companies are going to benefit a lot,” she observed. Lentswe encouraged local companies to register with their chapters so that they can get more information first hand. She said BEDIA benchmarked in Singapore and they found out that the country is rich in the field of ICT, and encouraged them to attract some ICT companies to operate in Botswana.
The federation had a chance to lecture government officials and leading ICT business personnel on e-government. Giving a lecture on leveraging Information Technology in the Design of Trade – Facilitation and Judiciary Reforms, Mr Tan Sian Lip of Crimsonlogic Pty Ltd said through e-government, Singapore judicial system disposes cases swiftly, he said writ of summons, affidavits and judgments can be done electronically reducing delays.
Lip said before they adopted the electronic system, cases were taking years to be disposed.
Jonathan Chin, the General Manager of Comat Training Services maintained that Public Private Patnership (PPP) are doing wonders for Singapore in ICT development. He said the Government of Singapore engaged the private sector in the development of education and training.
He said the private sector is involved in curriculum development, and providing multi -media solutions for schools. He said in the corporate side, they train government employees on the use of IT. He said so far they have trained over 60 000 civil servants.
