The construction of the Bishkek-Osh-Batken fiber optic network line is now near its completion, with around 80 kilometers yet to be finished in southern Kyrgyzstan, the Transport and Communications Ministry said., according to Akipress.

The construction of the fiber optic line began in June 2009.

The system is expected to be operational in late September. The remaining construction is being financed by Kyrgyztelecom.

The project is part of the Kyrgyz National Sustainable Development Strategy 2013-2017. “The project will make it possible to take a significant step toward the creation of a digital state, to create infrastructure needed for e-government and an information society, and to provide high-speed affordable Internet in the southern regions of the country,” the Ministry said.
