Kazakhstan national operator Kazakhtelecom has completed the deployment of fibre lines in 14 villages in the East Kazakhstan region. Around 44 state institutions have been connected to internet services there. About 83 villages will be covered with the network in the region.

Work is being carried out under the framework of a national programme. Kazakhtelecom plans to cover almost 2.5 million residents in remote areas with broadband. The national operator plans to build 14,500 kilometres of fibre lines and to connect almost 2,500 state and municipal institutions in 828 villages across the country this year.

The operator also plans to launch pilot Smart City projects in the region this year. The projects will be carried out in the cities of Ust-Kamenogorsk, Semey, Ridder, Kurchatov and Abay. Fixed broadband infrastructure will be upgraded there, with schools and health-care sites connected to broadband services, as well as to other digital services. LPWAN networks will be deployed in the cities.
