Kazakhstan ranks seventh among Asian countries for e-government in 2016, a United Nations report said.

The “100 Concrete Steps to Implement Five Institutional Reforms” initiative launched last year by President Nursultan Nazarbayev “has the potential to support the establishment of a modern, professional and independent public service,” the UN stated in its 2016 E-Government Survey.

South Korea, Singapore, Japan, Israel, Bahrain and the UAE outperformed the Central Asian country, and Kazakhstan was 33rd in the world ranking, coming in ahead of all other Commonwealth of Independent States members.

Britain tops the rankings this year for e-government development, followed by Australia and South Korea, the leader in the previous two surveys.

The United States ranks 12th in the world, while Russia and China are further down in the 35th and 67th places, respectively.

The E-Government Development Index assesses the preparedness and capacity of states in the use of information and communication technology to provide public services to citizens.
