Kazakhstan's capital city Astana will play host to the 2014 Global Forum on Electronic Government, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press service of the country’s Ministry of Transport and Communication.

The Forum was initiated by the United Nations after e-government has become widespread enough in the world and was held for the first time in 2012 in Seoul, South Korea.

South Korea also hosts the Global Forum this year, which is timed to coincide with the 7th International Conference on Theory and Practice of Electronic Governance spearheaded by the UN. The Forum gathered more than a thousand representatives of governmental authorities, businesses and international organizations from 40 countries.

South Korea has passed the right to hold the next year's forum to Kazakhstan.

At the Forum in Seoul, the Ministry of Transport and Communication of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Security and State Administration of South Korea agreed to boost their cooperation in the e-government development. They agreed to exchange experience and knowledge in the e-government sector, organize round tables and seminars, and study new opportunities for joint work and close interaction in holding of the E-Government Global Forum next year.

The United Nations has chosen Kazakhstan as the venue of next year’s Global Forum due to the dynamic development of the electronic government in Kazakhstan and its high positions in international IT rankings. The forum will take place in Astana in October 2014.
