The next step of the project on “Modernization of Sustainability and Efficiency of ICT Infrastructure and Services in Azerbaijan” will start soon.
This will be possible thanks to agreement reached between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Azerbaijan and the country’s Ministry of Communications and High Technologies 8.
The purposes of the project are extension of the ICT application area, maximizing socio-economic impact and creating multi-stakeholder dialogue for bridging the digital divide at the regional level, the UNDP informed
Under the project, there will be pursued multiple partnerships with international organizations like UNDESA, UNECE, UNPAN, UNESCAP and others, as well as, national and local authorities, civil society, business circles and bilateral partners in Azerbaijan.
Along with this, there are planned joint activities for implementation of TASIM project, for development of a national concept of developing innovative economy, infrastructure, e-government and other spheres. The project also provides for cooperation in organization of the Regional Internet Governance Forum in Baku.
UNDP Azerbaijan has a well-deserved reputation as a long-time partner of the Government of Azerbaijan within the area of ICT. Throughout these years, many projects with various state institutions have been realized and this partnership continues.
UNDP has partnered in the realization of the projects on the preparation of the National ICT Strategy, the establishment of the AzDataCom network, the creation of the Data Center, as well as, automation of business processes in the State Social Pension Fund, Ministry of Justice, State Customs Committee and other government sectors in Azerbaijan.
Overall, the ICT sector has intensively developed in Azerbaijan over the past years. Creation and developing of the e-Government system, expanding the broadband internet services, launch of the telecommunication and low-orbit satellites, and many other are the evidence of Azerbaijan’s success in this sphere.
