The statement came from department head of the ICT Ministry Isfandiyar Aliyev, Gun.Az reports.
Work in underway on a new investment project regarding installation of optical cables in Azerbaijan.
"The project considers three years for implementation. It envisages installation of optical cables at houses. After this projects, the internet speed in regions will be 10-12 Mb/s and in Baku over 30 Mb/s."
He noted that in the last five years, ICT sector in Azerbaijan increased six-fold. Production in this sector increased five times. Development in recent years is also fixed in mobile sector.
"Currently there are 110 mobile phones for every 100 person in Azerbaijan. Works is underway in application of 4G. The use of services of public agencies has increased. According to the latest data approved by the Cabinet, currently 42 public agencies offer 420 electronic services."
Aliyev said that at present some problems exist in ICT sector. They mostly relate to high-speed internet in rural areas. Currently, 35% of regions are provided with high-speed internet.
