Despite the obstacles on the way of utilization and management of the information and communications technology (ICT), gaining access to the latest findings and approaches in the sector is of crucial necessity, said Iranian President Khatami, adding that neglecting the technology would mean ignoring one's share of the modern science and technological progress, according to MNA.

Khatami, speaking at a national conference on ICT development and management held in Tehran, added, "I am sure that announcement of the results and achievements of the first ICT development program could create hope and promise for further steps in this regard." Concepts such as e-education, e-commerce, e-money, e-government, information community and computerized information are tangible and can be institutionalized in Iran's contemporary society, the president noted, adding that the concepts have become a necessity in today's executive, administrative, social and economic institutions.

He also commented that the ICT plays an effective and serious role in the economic and social development of the world and neglecting it would result in irreparable and grave damages to the country.

Khatami further stated, "Iran is the largest and the strongest market for ICT in the region, and those engaged in the commercial, industrial and economic sectors should prepare the ground for their effective presence in the international markets, so a fair share of the Gross National Product (GNP) could be attained."
