IRI Health Ministry is obliged, in accordance with 4th Development Plan, to establish an Electronic Health System for entire Iranian nation, but although the ministry has announced its readiness to do so, Government and Parliament have never allocated required budget to purpose.

Health Minister Kamran Baqeri-Lankarani said here Saturday at opening ceremony of Health Ministry’s Food & Medicine Deputy’s Information Station in response to Fars News Agency’s Social Desk reporter, Lankarani added, “Taking advantage of modern technologies at Health Ministry began in the years 1384 and 1385 at the Health Ministry.”

He added, “Yet, so far only ten billion rials (less than US $1mn) has been allocated to this project, that is quite insufficient considering the high volume of the huge national project.”

The Health Minister added, “The Electronic Health Project has so far been implemented in Bam as the pilot phase of the file and it would be implemented in some other provinces, too, but in order to implement it at national level we need the sufficient funds at disposal of the Health Ministry, which we still do not have.”

Lankarani added, “In order to fully implement the National E-Health System for entire Iranians any Iranian citizen should be provided with an intelligent e-card, for achieving which we have had talks with the ID Registration Organization.”

Baqeri-Lankarani said, “All the same, the electronic system for registration of patients’ medical records at hospitals has been installed at 60 out of country’s 530 hospitals and the standards of the electronic health record system have been defined for country’s entire health and remedial centers.”

He added, “The general approach of the country’s 4th Development Plan and the 20 Year Perspective is the establishment of the Electronic Government, and that obliges the entire state organs to accelerate the trend towards achieving that objective as far as possible.”

The Health Minister said, “Moves aimed in line with legal commitment, also in a bit to accelerate the current health processes and improve their quality, are seriously pursued at the Health Ministry and during the next couple of months offices of those Health Ministry Deputies that have more clientele would offer electronic services.”

He emphasized, addressing his colleagues the Health Ministry and affiliated organs, “The Health Ministry IT Headquarters should not get entangled in daily affairs and current problems, and should rather get busy standardizing, budget allocating, and strategic planning at service of the nation, and planning for trusting the people’s affairs to the private sector and particularly to the universities at shortest possible time, while observing full transparency in reporting such matters to the nation.”
