Transforming Government since 2001

The Chief Officer in charge of Information Communications Technology and E-government at the Uasin Gishu County government Edwin Kemboi has said that the public sector is still facing a shortage of Information Communication Technology skilled experts.

According to Mr Kemboi, youth have failed in taking up the ICT and opportunities in the sector therefore creating a gap that requires ICT skills in a bid to streamline the public sector.

"The country requires skilled personnel to move 60 per cent of the government services to the digital platform which the public sector is still lacking. We are now depending on ICT to run most of the government businesses such as job evaluations, procurement, tenders, storing information and also providing medical services in health facilities," he said.

Speaking on Friday in Eldoret town, Mr Kemboi said youth have failed to be part of the ICT industry yet the sector requires more manpower to enhance government and public services.

"Youth should know that the public sector now requires more ICT skilled personnel. The little number of the ICT skilled manpower that the country has is very wanting and so the need of such people. We need to grow with technology in every possible way no matter the circumstances," Mr Kemboi noted.

He added that in a bid to sensitise the youth on the importance of ICT and E-government, the Uasin Gishu County government will be hosting a youth empowerment conference at the end of October.

"The conference is aimed at making our future generation embrace ICT and the fast rising technology. The event will be at the Sirikwa Hotel from October 30 to 31 this year and every youth is invited," he concluded.
