Last week, the implementation of the smart city initiative began in Canton Sarajevo (CS), with the reconstruction of public lighting in Vogosca.

As announced by the cantonal government, the beginning of the public lighting reconstruction was attended by the cantonal Minister of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection Enver Hadziahmetovic (People and Justice – Narod i Pravda – NiP).

Multi-million pound plans for new council offices on a shared site with police, ambulance and fire stations in Welshpool have been unveiled.

The proposal would see the town’s former swimming baths become a multi-agency base for Powys County Council, the police, fire and ambulance services, GP’s surgery and more housing.

The wider site could also include a library, Powys teaching Local Health Board offices HM Customs and Revenue and a job centre.

The Ministry of the Interior has commissioned Siemens Business Services to set up an IT infrastructure for the production of 2.5m ID cards with biometric data for people over 16 and 1.5m driving licences, it was announced on 2 December 2003.

According to a statement from Siemens the distribution of the cards has already begun. The project is worth about €20m.

Around 500 participants, mostly civil servants and ICT experts from BiH have opened today the Second eGovernment Conference in BiH, entitled Domestic solutions for eGovernment. This two-day conference was opened in the newly-reconstructed Big Parliamentary Hall of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The organizers are Agency for Civil Service and UNDP in BiH, together with the leading industry partners in the field, from BiH.

The goal of this conference is to spur development of civil service in terms of the ICT usage as a tool for increasing effectiveness and efficiency of the civil services. Due to that, it is necessary to present the solutions applied in local institutions to the participants of the conference.
