The Executive Director of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), Dorothy Kisaka, has emphasised the role of university graduates in driving national transformation. ;

Speaking at a symposium organised by Makerere University, Kisaka urged graduates in key leadership roles to diagnose the problems of their institutions and develop innovative solutions to address them.

The symposium, which was graced by the Vice President of Uganda Jessica Alupo who represented President Yoweri Museveni and keynote speaker Prof Vincent Anigbogu from Nigeria, focused on the role of universities in national transformation. ;

Also in attendance was the minister of state for Higher education Chrysostom Muyingo who represented First Lady of Uganda Janet Kataha Museveni. The symposium attracted the heads of universities in the country

Kisaka underscored the importance of an integrated approach, understanding the national vision, and working within the space of leadership to solve problems.

"The quality of our university qualifications must be demonstrated at work. The graduates of the universities have the solutions through innovation. Having education and degrees is not enough, it must translate into national solutions to the many problems we face" Kisaka said

Drawing from her experience at KCCA, Kisaka highlighted how innovative ideas can transform society. The city management is transforming city gangs into responsible citizens who contribute to production by providing work opportunities. ;

The unemployed loitering youth have been organized into SACCOs known as Seven Hills. This group with a membership of over 3000 is now involved in cleaning and desilting landscaping in the city in all five divisions ;

Kisaka, who has a post-graduate qualification in leading innovation and change, underscored the importance of continuous learning and consistent improvement. ;

"The more we learn, the better we become. We should also use that knowledge to equip others, " Kisaka said

She urged graduates to use their knowledge to equip others and emphasized that change happens incrementally.

"Transformation is not miraculous but is a process that requires patience, and intentionality. We should not be stuck up in what is but be willing to adapt to situations to achieve the change we desire" Kisaka said

Kisaka encouraged graduates to be adaptable and intentional in achieving the change they desire.
