Citizens of Armenia will get e-passports containing biometric data starting from the first quarter of 2012, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said at Cabinet meeting on Thursday.

As Armenia News - NEWS.am reported earlier, the introduction of biometric passports and ID cards in Armenia (the first - to travel abroad, the second - for internal use only) has been postponed. The system had to be introduced in September 2011, but the process was moved to early 2012. The adoption of new system is a requirement of EU and UN.
