Members of the public, companies and corporations will soon be able to access the services of the Supreme Council for Environment and Natural Reserves (SCENR) on line, with the launch of its E-portal project.

The portal will make faster and simpler the services and procedures of SCENR, especially issuance of various permits to the public, throughout the week.

The new project aims to realize the concept of “paperless office” and forms part of its efforts to automate and develop the Council’s services in keeping with the spirit of Qatar’s e-government initiative, Khalid Ghanem Al Ali, general secretary of SCENR, said while inaugurating a training workshop on the project involving its staff at the Regency Hall recently.

The project involves developing and operating an online services network for the Council within an integrated web portal that will cover all the activities and services offered by SCENR.

The public, companies and organizations will be able to interact with the services available at the portal which are intended to support the decision making process based on the best, and the latest, electronically stored information. The project also involves building a unified database and developing and integrating the existing systems within SCENR.

The portal has been developed by Arabic language IT company Sakhr Software Co and implemented by Qatar Computer Services, Sakhr’s authorized dealer in Qatar. Moatasem Muhaisain, Regional Director – Gulf, Sakhr, and A K Suresh Babu, general manager, Qatar Computer Services, were also present at the function.

“We view the adoption of this technology as a vital step forward. We also believe that our staff and employees must undergo training in order to increase proficiency and competence so that we may replace the old and traditional method of business administration and customer relations with a new, more developed, automated system that will fulfill the Council’s needs and requirements automatically,” said Al Ali.

The project includes building a large E-portal which will offer comprehensive online services to everyone dealing with SCENR, in addition to an intranet system to automate SCENR’s internal procedures, all of which are based on Sakhr technologies such as ArabDox archiving systems and Idrisi search engine.
