Vietnam is to devote a total of VND6.5 trillion to develop its electronic government systems, according to a draft on the development of information technology and media applications from 2006 to 2010.

The state budget and Official Development Assistance loan (ODA) would finance the project, said the draft, which suggested that Vietnam should enhance the usage of IT and media applications at enterprises and e-government. The government should also focus on sourcing foreign investment and developing a skilled labor force for IT sector development, the draft said, in addition to carrying out educational programs to universalize computer awareness throughout the country.

Separately, the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry submitted to Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem a summarized report on “Supporting enterprises in IT application for integration and development” in a meeting on Tuesday of the National Steering committee on Information Technology.
