Vietnam recently ranked 112th out of 191 countries in the 2004 e-government readiness rankings of the United Nations Public Administration Network (UNPAN).

According to the 2004 ratings, the country has an index of 0.3378, down 15 positions from the previous year. In the Southeast Asian region, Vietnam took 6th place after Singapore (with an index of 0.8340), Malaysia (0.5409), the Philippines (0.5260), Thailand (0.5096), Brunei (0.4632) and Indonesia (0.3909). They were followed by Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and East Timor.

In comparison with the 2003 rankings, Vietnam dropped the largest number of positions, followed by the Philippines and Indonesia (14 positions), and Brunei (eight positions). Meanwhile, all regional countries which had lower rankings than Vietnam made progress last year.

UNPAN assessed the UN member states' e-government readiness based on website assessment; telecommunications infrastructure and human resources endowment.

According to the e-government readiness rankings, the United States (0.913) is the world leader followed by Denmark (0.904), the United Kingdom (0.885) and Sweden (0.874).
