A draft on building and developing an e-government through 2010 is expected to be completed and submitted to the Government for approval next month, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MoPT) said on Wednesday.

A meeting to discuss the draft was held in Ha Noi yesterday under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of the MoPT Mai Liem Truc. The e-government will provide information and public services from people through the Internet. The draft aims to help all government agencies launch their website by 2010 providing information for the public. More than one fourth of the urban population will use e-identity cards, and more than 40 percent of businesses will have their statistical reports for license registration accessible through the internet.

According to a survey conducted recently by the Institute of Post and Telecom and Information Technology with 21 ministries and services and 500 people in HCM City, almost all are aware of the need for an e-government in Viet Nam. However, Viet Nam has not yet officially announced any master plan to launch e-government service because the IT infrastructure still remains too poor for establishing an e-government in Viet Nam.

Some experts said that it is necessary to set a number of targets in building an e-government.
