On 28 February 2012, the Department of Information and Communications (DIC), Hanoi, officially launched its state-of-the-art state data centre.

“This project was funded by the World Bank, with a total value of about 66 billion Dong (US$ 3.3 million)” said Pham Quoc Ban, Director General, Hanoi DIC. The data centre will provide link functions and integration and operation of information technology for the whole city and will also serve as the point of contact in administration of information systems and sharing of city data, while offering the information retrieval needs of internal public sector bodies.

it will play the role of connecting the intranet systems of the city with other networks systems and ensuring information security for the whole city’s networks.

Including 31 physicals servers and 81 virtual servers, the data centre will meet the needs of expansion, backup and data sharing throughout the capital, ensuring connectivity with the central government.

According to Pham Quoc Ban, Director General of Hanoi DIC, the establishment of the data centre has highlighted the importance of ICT in state agencies.

He considers it a crucial factor in realising the “E-Hanoi 2015” vision and commented that it will unite the infrastructure, technology and security services within the capital’s ICT systems.
