Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has decided to invite the leaders of all municipal and provincial People’s Committees to participate in the government’s monthly meetings from March onwards, according to a telegram sent Friday to local government leaders by the Government Office.
The local government leaders will take part in cabinet sessions on socioeconomic issues and present their suggestions, the telegram said.
Dung has assigned the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) the task of installing equipment to enable the teleconference in the offices of all municipal and provincial People’s Committees.
He has also asked all the people’s committees to create favorable conditions for VNPT to complete the work no later than March 25, 2009.
This move is part of the government’s policy to effect savings and enhance effective governance.
Previously, Dung had ordered all Government ministries and agencies to increase administrative efficiency by organizing more teleconferences, as opposed to meeting in person, according to the Government’s official website.
If there was any special case that needed officials to meet in person, it must be reported and approved by the Prime Minister, the website said.
Early this year, the Government Office approved a project to improve and update the technological infrastructure in government offices to better serve the public with a modern e-government system, according to the website.
