About VND226 billion (US$13.6 million) will be budgeted for a three-year IT application plan in state agencies throughout Ho Chi Minh City, says Le Manh Ha, director of the city’s Department of Information and Communications.

The city People’s Committee has approved the budget estimate for the plan at VND79 billion for 2008, VND77.7 billion for 2008 and VND70 billion for 2010, he said.

The plan is aimed at perfecting the Metronet connection between departments, districts and universities, and improving the use of multimedia communication networks among state agencies.

The city has gained initial successes in the building of e-government, creating favorable conditions for further development of e-communications between the authorities and the public.

Since the business e-communication gate was put into operation, it has attracted 2,000 users everyday. More than 3,300 products from about 2,000 companies have been introduced via the gate.

Twenty departments and other agencies in the city have so far conducted administrative transactions with the public via the “single e-door” system.

An estimated 50 percent of recently-established businesses have been registered via the city’s e-public service system, the department says.
