An e-Government symposium opened in HCM City this morning, entitled ‘Vietnam’s e-Government: ready for a new era’.

The symposium plans to cover E-government operations, how e-Government can improve the Government’s management ability and how it can emend public services to benefit both businesses and citizens.

According to Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Minh Hong, the Ministry hopes that 2007’s e-Government Symposium will create a forum for managers and policy makers as well as foreign and Vietnamese experts to discuss the advantages and difficulties of computersising state administration and developing e-Government in Vietnam.

Two reports, namely “Orientation to promote ICT application in State agencies” by Head of the IT Application Agency under MoIC Hoang Quoc Lap and ‘e-Government panorama in HCM City and future plans’ by Le Manh Ha, Director of HCM City Department of Post and Telecommunications.

The author of “E-Government in Asia,” James SL Yong, will also present on his experiences with e-Government in developing countries.

Speakers from Singapore National University, IBM, Qualcomm, Siemens, etc. will also present their opinions and experiences.

Issues raised will be significant foundations for Vietnam to design their own e-Government system and policies.

On the side-lines will be an IT and telecom exhibition, where the latest products and technological solutions of world famous groups such as SAP, APC, Lenovo, Microsoft, Avaya, Misoft and Santak will be featured.

The two-day symposium boasts over 300 participants and is expected to lure around 1,000 visitors.
