The Vietnamese Ministry of Trade and Industry Wednesday officially launched eCoSys, a system designed to grant and manage Certificates of Origin (C/Os) online through the website www.ecvn.com.

Under the new system, exporters in Viet Nam could apply for C/O for their products from the ministry through the site rather than using conventional mail.

It is expected to save time and money for enterprises, cut red tape, facilitate administrative reforms and fulfill the national target for e-government plans to 2010.

For now, to be eligible for online C/O processing, enterprises must meet the following criteria: be listed as a “prestigious exporter” by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, be a golden or silver member of the Vietnam E-Commerce Portal, ECVN, be registered as having an annual average export turnover in garments, textiles or footwear of over US$30 million over the past three years, or be recommended and guaranteed by trade associations.

Later, ECoSys will be applied to all enterprises.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung yesterday issued a national directive to enhance information exchange through IT and the nation’s e-government systems.
