The southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City recently launched a project on information technology and communications, which is expected to complete by December, 2010.

The project budget is 12 million USD, sourced from World Bank loans and the city's budget. It focuses on IT human resource development with the establishment of a special fund scheduled for late this year. The fund with initial capital of 1.25 million USD will support training institutions to meet demands in personnel training by IT businesses. The fund will also invest in high-tech laboratories for universities.

The project also aims to develop the municipal E-Government and encourage medium and small-sized businesses to apply IT to their operations, especially in trade promotion and trade-mark build-up and development, among other purposes.

For further IT human resource development, the municipal People's Committee is also prepared to put into operation another fund with a similar capital raised from various resources such as the State budget allocations, foreign grant aid and soft credits.
