At the inauguration ceremony PM Khai said Vietnam Party and State laid down a policy to intensify the application of information technology into the country's modernisation process and its international integration.
Despite the State coffer's limited finance, Vietnamese Government over the years has focused on investing in many information technology application projects including the development of a Government's website.
The Prime Minister believed that the launch of the government website would narrow the gap of space and timing in contact and dialogue between the Government and the public in the country, overseas Vietnamese, businesses and investors so as to work together to find out best solutions to make the country more prosperous, democratic and civilised.
In addition, the website would contribute to the global knowledge basket via Internet that make international friends further understand and co-operate with Vietnam, he added.
PM Khai asked managers and staff of the website to raise their professional skills in an effort to make the website both reliable and accurate, as well as to ensure network security to minimise any breakdown that may occur.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister and Director of the Government Office Doan Manh Giao emphasised that the setting of the website would mark an important event and Government's efforts in the process to reform administration through carrying a strategy to build an e-government in Vietnam.
The establishment of the website showed the Government's determination and commitment to renovate and raise effectively of the State apparatus and take the best use of information resources and help the government to reach its targets and minimise social expenditures.
He said the website construction was divided into two stages. The first phase was to create a database and make it become a tool of information dissemination on the Government's policies and its activities.
The website would become an on-line forum between the Government and the public and business community.
The second phase aimed to unite information, management activities of ministries and localities towards a public service activity.
In the second phase, the website will publish its English version in September this year.
The government website has updated 24 accounts comprising information on Vietnamese government, ministries, cities and provinces and businesses and social economic development projects, State administrative reforms.
The website has updated more than 20,000 pages of information and linked with 1,500 accounts.
Visitors can access the website at www.vietnam.gov.vn and www.chinhphu.vn.
